My Soggy Saturday - Buff & Lrg. Bullet

I met up with RWSNC (Bob) and B|ker (Bill) this morning at the 1830 CW house. The place was saturated with water from all the rain we've been getting. You know when you dig a hole and it fills in with water, it's soggy. :'( We could have done some mud wrestling, but no one brought their wrestling tights. We mainly hunted on high ground around the house until more rain hit at noon. B|ker outdid us on coins today with some kind of green & yellow detector called a "Garrett 250". When I first saw the colors I thought it was a John Deere detector. :tongue3: ::) ;D He did pretty good though.
My measly finds were:

*1935 Buff Nickel

*A large 3-ringer bullet. This has to be the largest one in my collection. Over 1" long, and 3/4" wide!!! As heavy as it is, they could have thrown this thing in the CW and killed someone!
What kind and size is this beast?

*Three Niagara silver plated spoons.
(B. Manley- Looks like one of your hunts. :D  )

*A decorative piece, a salt shaker lid, a broken button back, and a Hubley toy piece.

Not much of a hunt, but we'll do better once it dries out.

Re: My Soggy Saturday - Buff & Lrg. Bullet

Nice finds, Doug, especially the bullet (it's a big one). I just found a buffalo nickel and a Jefferson nickel. Both were in the same shape as Doug's but the dates aren't visible on either coin. That darn B|lker, found one of his silvers ...RIGHT NEXT TO MY CAR.... :sad1:

Thanks again for the invite, Doug

No problem.
Sorry it was so wet. We didn't have much area to venture out to MD. :'(
You'll get B|ker next time. That dirty dog!

Boy I wish I could get out and hunt as much as you. Great bullet. :icon_sunny: Those spoons look almost long enough to be shovels. You should use them to dig up more awesome artifacts :tard: :tongue3:

We measured it and it came to 3/4" which makes me think that it might be a .75 cal.

Re: My Soggy Saturday - Buff & Lrg. Bullet

Nice haul!!!
I got my first buffalo today.

Re: My Soggy Saturday - Buff & Lrg. Bullet

The Buffalo looks good Doug. :) The bullet is cool too. Too bad you got washed out. That was my Friday after work hunt - I only lasted an hour. Not only was it raining good but it was in the 30's. But I did find something worthwhile....

Today was nice here. 50's and sunny! :icon_sunny: Finally. Found something worthwhile today also. ;D ;D :D Don't worry, I should have the post up in a day or two. :laughing7:

Smoke,
I can't believe this bullet was only a few inches deep, AND just on the side of the house. :o I missed it when I hunted here before, but due to the wet soil we were getting a LOT of signals today.

Thanks Civil.
Can you tell by the measurements on the ruler above, or are there other measurements needed?

Re: My Soggy Saturday - Buff & Lrg. Bullet

MM,

That bullet looks like McKee & Mason 323 due to its size and snubbed nose. That's my best guess at this point.

Diameter: .715
Length: 1.080

.72/.73 caliber

Foreign rifle musket

Regards,

Buckleboy

Re: My Soggy Saturday - Buff & Lrg. Bullet

Hey MM
Just looked at your post, nice finds! Seems like you always find something decent. As I was scrolling down through your pics,I freaked out when I seen your button back. It is from Racine,my hometown, located about 20 miles south of Milwaukee and about 80 miles north of Chicago. The weird part is my Grandma used to work there,it was called Badger shirt and uniform at that time. I will have to do a little research, but I'm sure it was the same place and the name was changed at sometime.
Grandma probably didn't make that button,I'm sure it's a lot older than she was! LOL
Keep on digging!
