I found this yesterday on a lot that isn't that old. I didn't know what it was until I took it home and soaked it in water and then saw the faint outline of a bust. Other then the outline I cannot make anything else out. This is the most wore out coin I have ever found. I wonder if it is even good for anything?

It is good for your mojo to find more! Outstanding, no matter the condition

I agree, especially when it wasn't on my radar and I almost threw it in with my junk copper and brass!

There are people who will never find one. Of course it is good for something. Congrats to you.

Thank you. A few feet away a couple of weeks ago, I found a 1864 French 9 Centime coin which looks a lot like a large cent, but in better shape. I will have to post that. What is interesting is that the lot had a 1940s house on it. Someone must had a few coins that they collected.

When I first saw your pics I thought where is he seeing a largie? But then I saw it ! Hey it's bady worn but to me it never matters they are awesome to dig up. Good job and remember where there's one there are more. Good luck and congrats.

Hi Pointman; Yours appears to be a Braided Hair Matron Type Large Cent made from 1839 - 1857. Value :Personal.
Think about buying the R.S. Yeoman Red Book. It is basically the Bible of US coins. You can get them at any reputable coin shop or on line ok. Great find. Good eye. PEACE:RONB 8-)

Its good enough to be your first large cent! Congrats!

"good for anything"!?!?!

It is your very FIRST large cent!!! MAN! That is all it needs to be!

Congrats and many happy returns of the day!

Your right, I would have to show this to my grand kids when I talk about how I got my own digging show, lol.

What is amazing is that I have walked past it on 3 other hunts and 2 other hunting buddies must have walked over it also.

Cool find Pointman. I just got my first detector today and had a blast in the yard finding 8 pennies and a 1965 dime and about 1/3 of what looked like an old two man saw.

Get used to finding those '65 coins, lol!

I find a lot of 1965 quarters and dimes. Sometimes gets frustrating, but I still like digging quarters and dimes and it all adds up. Keep at it and go knock on some doors!
