✅ SOLVED Mystery belt buckle

Definitely need help identifying this one. My buddy found this near a cellar hole, and we are thinking it is Revolutionary War. There was a NH military unit called Berry's Company in 1775, associated with the 53 - but I haven't found anything yet. Maybe it's Civil War? Anyone have any ideas?

Wow, great buckle! And intact! Although I can't by my own knowledge verify for sure that it's a Revolutionary War buckle, that seems to be what they are ID'd as:

If it's real (not a repro) I agree. I am not saying it isn't real. I know nothing about such things but it is in incredible shape.
It probably won't get enough attention to make banner in this forum though.

On this PAGE a bit past halfway down, will be found a button, with the number "53".

It was from the 53rd foot regiment of General Burgoyne's British troops. They fought at Ft Ticonderoga, as well as Mount Independence in Vermont.

I would think it likely that this belt plate is from the same unit, and was probably claimed as a war prize by a Continental regular who took it home.

the pegs and tongue style could be from either war --area found and the history of the area might give some clues as to which -- looks to me to be british 53rd from rew war -- as a earlier poster said --a possible "war prize" type of item.

If so, you would think it should have the same font. This does not match the button but then again, I could be comparing it to the wrong button. Never the less, very nice find.

Seems there's still some question about exactly what it is... and what it is, is a Rev War period British 53rd plate, most likely shoulder belt plate. I happened to be talking to someone earlier today who collects such material, and he has one, and said this is the 4th he is aware of. Still a rare and very good find.
