"Meriden B" = the Meriden Britannia Company. There's a whole bunch of things it could be from. They used eagle motifs as their mark at various times but I don't think that's what this is... ie not a maker emblem attached to one of their pieces for identification. They also made a wide variety of eagle emblems as plates and ornaments for various purposes, including coffin ornaments. Some of them are listed here:

Lets start with, What size is it? Does that hole on the back go all the way through for mounting? One hole does not make sense. Is any thing broken off the piece? Is it heavy?

No idea really, but I could see that attached to a mailbox or old gun safe.

Per mdmike's post - 4" tall. I only see one hole. It goes all the way through. You can see it in front and back pics. It does not appear to be broken.

It looks to be solid and in one piece. It apears to say "patent!" I'm not sure but i hope i get one like that in my collection.

As mentioned, its 4" tall... weight is about 8 oz... maximum thickness is about 1/2" in the chest area. yes, there is a thru hole and could have been used to mount it. is it broken?...looks like it could be. Edges are a little ragged everywhere, so its hard to tell.

I think the wing is broken. If you look at the back picture you can see the smoother edge where the wing was compared to the jaggedness around the rest of the bird. And, if that wing was behind the body then why are both feet facing towards the front? That being said, I have no idea what it is.
