I found this rock while digging today and it caught my eye. Location central Indiana. Digging in an old field that is now new homes. I was down about 3 ft in mostly dirt when I saw red stone, almost a brick red color with some sort of crystallization coming from the top middle. Any clue to what it is? image.webp

Not familiar with the geology of the area. But my first guess would be jasper or rhyolite.

I'm guessing jasper.

Banded iron formation, probably came down from Canada on the glacial express.

Might be partially jasperized, but dunno.

Yeah, probably a jasper-hematite/magnetite mix. Should polish nicely, the stuff we have here in Ontario is fantastic.
