My bro-in-law found this matate in the river in Idaho while swimming. The neatest thing is the back is polished by use and you can barely see a perfect left-handed print worn in the rock, I couldn’t quite capture it with the lighting though. I really like the human side of artifacts and the day to day use of them.

It is an interesting specimen for sure. It’s different somehow than others I’ve seen.

Why would there be a hand print on it? Like they held it to make hole or held it to ground items?

Yes it’s not that big, you can easily hold it and work with it. C4207D0B-A7A2-435E-93D2-BA71C6149557.jpeg The bottom is v shaped so it could not be used on the ground like the bigger ones. The print is a hand shaped worn area with the palm, thumb and four fingers visible. The inside is cupped in at about the 7 o’clock like it would if a right handed person used the same motion pressing back towards themselves.

Okay, understand better now. My thought it would be on a surface other than a hand.
Thanks
