Nana's Gulf Shores 2008 Finds

Just back from the beach and had a wonderful time. Got LOTS'A pictures, but I'll spare you all and just post the high spots.

I love the beach. Just sitting there watching the waves come and go. And having the entire family with me was a bonus! :thumbsup:

Other than what I found detecting, the best time was going on the dolphin cruise at Bear Point Marina.

It was amazing!....Here's how it played out.
Two boats. Each with about 50 people on them. Out into the waters and the first one to spot a group of dolphins calls the other boat. They watch to see which way the dolphins are swimming and then the boats take off, side by side with about 30 feet between the two, making a huge wave the whole way. The dolphins get into the wave and take a free ride, all the while jumping and spinning and having a great time. And the folks on the boats are in awe seeing them!

Of course the usual visit to the Oyster House where the food was delish and Bahama Bob's was good too. There's a new spot called the Hang Out and it was fun. Charlie had a REALLY great time there!

One more margarita though, and he'da been walking to the condo!

I did manage to get a little hunting time in. Three trips at midnight for a total of about four hours combined hunting time. I didn't wonder off very far from home, as for some reason no one wanted to go out to the beach and hunt with me. They all wanted to stay in and go to sleep! :sleepy2:

First night out, I found my best keeper! The rest was just change, but I sure enjoyed the digging being soooo easy! I'm sooooo jealous of you guys that get to detect the sand all the time!

925 Italy 24" necklace with 925 St. Christopher pendant! I was SO excited when I found it! And then a earring and $3.49 in change. LOTS of pull tabs and beer tops not pictured. :P

Had a wonderful time and wish I was still there!

Looks like you and Charlie had a great time! Very nice pics. A friend I work with goes down there all the time and your pictures make me want to hit it sometime.

Great finds and nice seeing you kicking back soaking up some sun.

Thanks so much, ya'll! It's great to have a family to share my finds with. My other family just don't seem too excited when I tell them I'm goin' huntin' OR when I come back with a keeper.

Beefy....might not have found those shells without it!

Beach hunting is so relaxing that you almost don't care what you find. :icon_sunny:

Looks like some good R&R. Dolphins are cool to see "in the wild".

Some years back I spent a few days on gulf shores beach. It was located where the lighthouse hotel was. I understand it is now gone. I didn't find a lot of good things, but I did find a hand grenade, and the law came, and got it. I had kids following me around, and I gave them all the little toys that I found. They were tickled to get them. A beautiful place to spend a vacation, and go detecting. Really liked you photos.

Nana, Looks like you had an awesome time down there, nice pics and nice finds, Congrats!!! I am heading to Gulf Shores on the 6th, you need to tell me where you looked so I don't go over where you detected, lol!!!!!!!!!!! I guess you were detecting at midnight so you probably had no idea where exactly you were anyway! We are staying on the Ft.Morgan side of that main access road (where it T's right at the ocean) and about 3 or 4 blocks down (turn right at the ocean)!! Where abouts did you guys stay? This will be our 2nd time in 4 yrs, stayed at Gulf Shores Plantation out on Ft.Morgan road last time and would recommend that place to anyone thinking of going down there!!! Thanks for posting and hope my vacation turns out half as good as yours looked like in the pics.....................Nascarfan

Yeah, the old Lighthouse was torn down, but now they have the Lighthouse Condo's to take it's place. $:-\$

Possum...I know! I was elated when I found it!

NFan...OH! I knew where I was!

I didn't cover that much area. :P

I stayed within eyesight of my place. We were at Crystal Shores West. I'm thinking that most of my finds were things that were dropped throughout the day. I only found three or four coins that were fading away. There is a local that hunts the area every morning around 6 am. And you wanna talk about speed speed detecting!

He'd get a beep, scoop it up and keep right on going without skipping a beat! Hope you all have a GREAT time! :thumbsup:

Great trip Nana. Was Charlie an A$$ on this trip or did he get promoted? Our family use to go to Galveston and rent a huge waterfront condo before we got to be so many and so scattered out. Fun times indeed. Loved the silver medal and sorry you didn't get to hunt longer. M
