Hi all. Got out with Chris today for one of our longest days. We returned to the very old town from last week and even went to a couple others. First target of the day was a buff. Second was an Indian. I was sure silver was around the corner, but not for me today. Closest I came was a plated spoon. I did manage another buff and 2 more Indians. It was just yesterday I commented on someone's thread that I had not found any IH's this year. I found a small, heavy little 2 piece button that I can't make the back mark out on. Also my very first tombac button. If someone knows a date, I would be grateful. Crotal, wheats, bling and big pile of clad rounded out the day. Was a lot of fun today!

Nice haul there Old Dude !! The heavy two piece button could be cuff-links ??

Now THAT is a very good suggestion CaRM! It is just too thick to be a flat button. Since it was found at the site of an old church/meeting house, I bet you are right! Thank you.

Ol Dude beautiful spun tombac , vanzuphen

I bet that plated hair clip or brooch gave you quite the scare when it came up Dave! :laughing7:

Nice finds, any day you can dig IH's and crotal bells in one day is a good hunt my friend! :notworthy:

Hopefully you'll find some silver this weekend, I'm still looking for my first silver of the year too! :icon_scratch:

Dave

With finds like that, the only thing you need to do different is to get your coil over a silver. Just timing.

How deep were the nickels? What was G/B like?

Good looking bunch of funds dude!

He was killing the ihs/buttons/ buffs, and got his oldest ih yet, I call that a great day!

Dave, I was afraid to look at it, lol! We were at a very old site. I had just found a couple keeper coins and then this came out of the ground. The style of it is what really made me look closely, lol! I am sure that silver is on it's way very soon. Thanks!

I don't believe either of the nickels were over 4 inches. They were found at 2 different sites. 2 of the IH's were found where one buff was. The 3rd IH was at a site where I only got a huge clad spill, maybe 1 of the wheats, and then other clad targets. The 2nd buff was the only keeper target at another site. I don't think I even noticed the g/b. Actually, I even trusted auto g/b all day. Don't think I even did a manual.

JC, I found a plated spoon that made Chris sit up and notice when it came out of the ground lol.

Yeah, I still haven't looked, but I believe the 1865 is my oldest yet.

Last time I looked it was, Gary. I don't remember even looking yesterday though.

Thank you for sharing those pictures and your hunt with us

Dave, good work on those finds, I love Indians and buffalo's! It's only a matter of time, one of those mid tones will end up being either a honking gold ring with a fat diamond in it or a War nickel. I'd hit that place again there has to be another War nickel in there somewhere!

Is that hair thing gold, or plated? The style of that item is similar to a mid-1800s one a friend of mine dug in Kentucky a few years ago. Wooden or bone dowel wouldve gone through to hold the hair back.

Thanks Brad. The owner only let us hunt part of the property at the best and oldest site we did. He also gave us a time limit so we could not really be as thorough as we wanted. This place is hiding some nice finds I am sure. Unfortunately he only gave us the one time hunt. Good luck water hunting!

BB, the thing is plated. The style gave me hope more than the gold color. With the time limit we had, I had to just give it a quick look and then in the pouch it went lol. Thanks!
