Native american pipe?

Did scratch test and it looks to be white clay. Was found in a creek in cayuga county NY. Deff appears to be a pipe and my thoughts were native american.

could be, doesn't look as refined as most of the colonial ones i've seen. Im no expert though. nice find.

It could be but most of the NA pipes made from clay that I have seen was a type of pottery and none were made from a white clay, but I don't know your area artifacts. Either way it is a real good find.

There is a lot of white clay around here in our creeks/rivers from what I have seen, though the pottery I dug up not long ago was all the brown colored clay, but that could have been from processing. I don't know a whole lot about the clay/pottery uses and processing.

Look into tavern pipes? Those were made of white clay...found one in a creek a while back...the shape of this is different but maybe its a variant

Thanks Monsterrack, I wasn't really able to find many of this type. Though the ones I did see had almost the same angled bowl, just a little deeper. Not sure how long its been banged around this outlet, but just this year they have had it gushing like crazy with all this rain. Still surprised its whole.

the white clay you see most likely fires to the brown, reddish pottery you find. I find green, white, yellow, clays all the time and they all fire brick red.

The first and third pictures look like a concretion formed around a root, but that second pic looks like a Pipe with some of the bowl missing. Would have to see inside the bowl and stem to say for sure.

These were all found near water...The one bowl has a steam locomotive on one side and a steam schooner on the back....tavern pipes could have been traded in later periods..mjm

Id say so. The blackness on the inside is probably from tobacco.
