Love mushrooms. Used to pick field shrooms by the bin full in the paddocks near where we lived and sell them on the roadside as a kid. 50 cents a paper lunch bag full. Id love to try those but have never seen them here even in shops.
Good find there. 👍

The moral mushrooms sell for $30-40 a pound fresh in Ontario

I have never been very confident picking mushroom or fungi in the wild. Some can be very very toxic to kidneys. Yet I love mudrooms. I love them fried with bit garlic butter. Some mushroom and fungi had enormous health benefits.

I have dried Cordyceps.

And lions mane in my tea every day.

While I am not expert I seem to be reaping the health benefits. Last year my flare up with COPD was getting worse. My carbon dioxide levels in blood was dangerous high I was at the point of falling into coma. I was back and forth to hospital. Doctors basically sent me home die with prescription of the usual steroids treatment Oxygen and medications for a damaged lung stage 4. They gave me to last February to live. I came close I floated out of my body several times on the point of death over Christmas and new year..

Before that they sent me to group for remedial; lung exercises. I could not walk to letter box without being exhausted. You might of noticed in many of my posts I Missed words in my sentences and still do. It is an effect of low oxygen levels and high carbon dioxide levels. Everyone In the group suffering advanced COPD. All with oxygen bottles are now dead. I looked around thinking there is got to some thing better than this?

I started researching into cutting edge lung treatments. So I rebelled at my doctors and totally stopped my medications and started seeking alternative therapies. That was when I discovered Cordyceps Its fungi that grown the back of insects and caterpillars in Himalayas . I have six kilos dried into 100 gram and now take under 100 mg a day in my tea. I also made our life style changes also. I no longer drink anything carbonated. I don't smoke. eat really healthy. I have gone from hardly able to walk to the letter box to walking ten Km a day. People who know me are blown away at the improvement as I was walking death. Ironic as all the ones I was on with on remedial lung program blindly followed what doctors told them are now dead.

Cordyceps digested in my stomach helps draw oxygen through the digestive system into my blood pushing out dangerously high carbon dioxide levels out. Do not be fooled Cordyceps does not cure damage alveoli in the lungs. But it helps takes the pressure off a poor functioning lung. It is not endorse by the medical profession. It made me wonder what else is out there in nature?

That was when I found Lions mane. My nervous system and memory was damaged by lack of oxygen and high carbon dioxide levels gave me a tremor in my hands. Lions Mane fungi helps control the damage. I cannot speak highly enough of both Fungi. Yet was and and still are poo pooed by big pharma and medical profession. So it inspired me research more into effects of COPD. I have a powerful incentive research as the alternative was slow death by suffocation.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) affects millions globally, causing significant health and economic burdens. In 2021, COPD was the fourth leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for 3.5 million deaths. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 64 million people have COPD, and COPD is projected to become the third leading cause of death worldwide by 2030.
Other scientific bodies put figure way much higher. they claim In 2020, an estimated 480 million people worldwide had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This number is projected to increase to 592 million by 2050. The increase is primarily attributed to a rise in COPD among women and in less developed countries. Source Satistica Number of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) cases worldwide in 2020 and projections to 2050

The pharmaceutical companies and medical industry in general make billions with flogging treatments that eases symptoms . But they only band aid and not a cure a disease as scientists say is incurable. As you can see money is a powerful disincentive not to have cure is it not?

But there is few scientists in Switzerland and around the world beg to differ as research show lung cell re-growing in mice. The research funding was cut.. It comes down lungs cells. In the lungs, alveolar type I cells are thin, flat cells that make up the majority of the alveolar surface and are primarily responsible for gas exchange. Alveolar type II cells, on the other hand, are smaller and cuboidal, and they produce surfactant, which helps to prevent the alveoli from collapsing. alveolar type I cells do not replicate. When too many die from pollution, smoke, and other irritants lung function fails. That is why doctors say COPD is incurable. However Alveolar type II cells can replicate, can even with Harvard university studies have shown Type 2 cells morph into type 1 cells. What trigger this is little understood. Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate our body produces declines with age thus cells fail to replicate as in the natural process of aging. Using precursor to create Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate our bodies can stimulates Cell growth.

I suspect there is cure out there. But it all comes down to money? Is it more profitable keeping people sick or to cure them?

So yeah I fully believe the help benefits in mushroom and fungi and other herbs out the medical industry do not want you to know abut them.

So Pepperj you really have found a treasure.

I'm going to have to do some research on this shroom. It certainly has been a great supplement to your COPD.
I haven't smoked for 38 yrs, and eat a very healthy diet. I hate anything carbonated it seems and must be 15-20yrs since I drank a pop.
Though in my short look at this mushroom I noticed this.

Crow,

I too greatly suffer from COPD, could you please direct me to a good source of these 2 fungi and recommended doses??

I see many sources online but really don't know which to try, a capsule would be better for me to use.

I can't lose giving them a try.

We have a few here. We also have "magic" mushrooms! Careful with those! :laughing7:

I have never tasted those type of mushrooms. What do taste like. how do you cook them?

Crow
In butter for 5-15 minutes.
They have earthy, and nutty flavor profile, often described as savory and meaty texture.
The Mrs saute them then added them to a soup.

The early morel in spring is dark. Black or Smokey. The later yellows/whites are worth having.
Delightfully for connoisseurs /common sewers they have a unique flavor. Unlike more common commercial mushrooms being more about the flavor you cook them in or with.

Fried to a near solid crispy outer is a treat. if using butter don't scorch it.
Sautéed and kept firm but not crisp anywhere for garnish on a steak or similar. A very special occasion if I have any say in it. or cook them more if desired for a garnish. They retain their more natural appearance better sautéed.

Overwhelmed with a bathtub full?
Dredge in whisked egg and then into a paper bag of flour with salt and pepper in it already.
yes plastic will work. Morels predate plastic though. Use a paper bag dang it.
Toss them gently by shaking bag with top rolled closed three or four shakes. Then to an inch or more hot oil like ready for pancakes hot. turn once with chopsticks or whatever.
Remove to drain on brown paper.

Morels dry well. i've had some a few years before. Some chefs prefer them dried so they can rehydrate them in what some suggest is a greater/stronger flavor.
But then rehydrating them in water is different than in cream.
Water is fine by the way.

i was handed a bowl of ice cream and bananas and had to go!

handled gently kept in an airy condition (no bags or solid containers we use former onion bags ect.)
then cut in halveslengthwise before a mild salt water bath. The bugs and slugs I've seen result keep me doing so.
Rinse then dry on floursack towels. Or whatever towels if not married.
Reserve a sample the first time.
Then each year first batch. Skip alchohol with them. I know, But be warned.
The sample will be for if you have a reaction. Cutting them in half also shows they are actually morels and not look alikes.

Gotta go again.
An old dog needs to go out.
