Naval Flares....

I opened a black, oblong vinyl pouch with several deep pockets and thought there were just some wrenches and tools in them. Paid the lady the $10.

Got home and while going through the pouches, the end pouch had a clear plastic bag filled with this:

SIGNAL KIT, ILLUNINATION
MK 79 MOD 0
7 signals, hand fired MK 80 MOD 0 with
1 projector, signal, surface MK 31 Mod 0
LOT 57

Here are two different pics I found on line showing all of what's inside the plastic bag.

Who would be interested in this and what would be a good price if I sold it in a future garage sale?

Someone on ebay is asking $100 for just the packaging. Be careful with those things, especially if they are old.

Here is the black pouch where the flare set was found. Could this be some type of map pouch for a Naval pilot? Any idea of what era these two items could be from?

I don't think your allowed to sell the actual flares on ebay.

All I can offer on the pouch is that I don't think it is military in origin. The ones i'm familiar with usually have a carrying strap and are usually canvas or brown leather. It looks more like a case that would have your automobile owners manual and associated paperwork to me. Off the top of my head anyway.

One New Year's night we fired one of those things off. The sky was very cloudy and the clouds were low, almost foggy. The flare lit up the whole sky as it was reflecting off the clouds. Kinda looked like "Red Dawn".
