Did anyone notice in the article....

The hobbyist, Paul Curfs, 47, found several coins this spring and called attention to the find, which eventually led to an archaeological investigation by Amsterdam's Free University.

Great. That probably means the area is now off-limits for Mr. Curfs to continue metal detecting the site, except to help make finds for the archaeological team!

Maybe I'm just being over cynical.

But if it was me, it would have been "mums the word" on the location of a find like that.

In any event, what a rush that must have been to dig not just one gold or silver coin...but dozens!! Wahoo!

hey gang,
and to think.... I was stationed there from 1980-83. I found a TON of " beer " treasure but no gold. As GI's we would hang out in the old city wall, there was a GREAT club that used to be the originial jail. GREAT cheese and beer
