need a ID please.

been down with my back for last 2 weeks, i have had 2 surgries and they say I need another. Long story. Anyway I have been doing some organizing of my finds and alot of daydreaming and looking over all the post you all have done. I need a id on this find which was probably my first a couple years ago when I really wasn't even into artifact hunting then. It is a purpleish colored material and it has a snapped base from one corner over, also it looks to me that there may have been a little grinding done to the break because its a field find yet the break is not sharp. Please any help would very much be appreciated. This was found in Monteau County, Mo. Thanks again for any help. Good luck to everyone. Wes JYD...

I'm a little shaky on typology out of my own area, but that looks like either a graham cave or big sandy type. (Early Archaic I think)
That said, it also appears to be a recycle job. Either the first owner broke a much larger one and redid the "Pointy end" or else it came off something much older, was picked up by a later culture and re worked.
Either way, its a nice point. Love that color too!!

Nice point JYD, a bad back has to be frustrating for an artifact hunter. Good luck with the surgery. I'm pretty rusty with id in your area, so I 'll let the Mo. guys handle that. The beveled edges and well ground base should help narrow it down, looks early archaic to me.

First off, Good Luck with your back, JD.

Hard to tell from your photo, but it looks like you might have found a Decatur point there. The basal edge at 90 degrees to the plane of the blade and the (visual) suggestion of it having been burin flaked from both ends toward a removal along its length seem worth noting.
