Ditto about the swimmers! A plus is it will be easier to dig that in rocks of New England. If no swimmers, good luck in finding whatever you are searching for. Just be sure it is legal, if you are in the park.

Should be easier to make recoveries because you can use a scoop. Prying in the rocks is a pain!

I hunt a fresh water river in SE Texas.. it is sandy as well. Tough to find the really old stuff in the sand..Really Depends on how fast the water is flowing and how fast or often the bars move around.. the recent drops will probably be close to the sand surface; older stuff I'd try to find in lower areas or anyplace the water slows down.

Also.. I'd look pretty close at this area to see if it is huntable. For sure.

So much history in La.. gotta be old stuff around. Just have to find it.

Most Rivers , & good size Creeks here (Below The N GA Mountains) have mostly a sandy bottom , it seems With 140 years of trash , Floods , It would take extra patience & learning.

Heck I would like to try hittin the water sometime. But First I need a Waterproof Machine. lol
&
A Strong Magnet for the Iron.
