Found this today. Looks like a military eagle on the back with a blank front.

I believe button back-mark reads "Best Treble Plated" ? The button should date to the 1820s-1840s..

Since the button is got a eagle on the back it means it was "American made" after the War of 1812 the Americans starting manufacturing and not relying on British.

Thought you might want to know, Merf... when seen on 19th-century buttons, the word "Plated" strictly meant Silver plating. For Gold plating, the word used in button backmarks was "Gilt."

A clarification... I should have been more specific. I meant, this ONE-PIECE type of 19th-Century buttons. There is one backmark which says "Fine Gold Plate" on 19th-Century TWO-PIECE buttons. Except for that one, the rule about the word "plate" in 19th-Century backmarks always meaning Silver plating holds true.
