003.webp004.webpI dug this on a early site awhile back, it was on down there a ways, I guess about 8 or 9 inches. The stuff I found on the site suggests that it is colonial, but I haven't seen anything quite like it.I am hoping there are some whistle experts out there!I seen some of you European hunters find some old pewter whistles, maybe some of you guys can help me out.It is molded 2 piece pewter, and has a little flat reed in the mouth- piece, and has the lanyard on the end for wear.amazing the little sucker still works.I am just curious about it's age and if possible maybe place of origin?joe

Bump, I'm interested also, want to see some of the answers.

Could possibly be a boatswain's mate whistle from the Navy. Are you near coastal waters?
They wear their whistles around their necks so a lanyard would be appropriate. Usually a very high pitch whistle.

Here's a picture of a Bosun's Pipe (whistle) complete with lanyard.

Your find more closely resembles a dog whistle, but I don't think it is if it makes an audible sound.

possibly a hawking whistle, this whistle has the spiral design similarities and other hawking/hunting whistles have mouth piece similarities. I hope you can find a exact match, it's a very nice piece. Bill
