I posted a bit on the question below about this pipe, but here goes again.

Great looking pipe, I've seen several examples like it from Virginia/Carolinas. If it's authentic, I'd say it's late prehistoric to proto-historic, but probably not historic (from a valuation point of view that's a significant difference.) There are Hopewell pieces made like that, but I've always thought that style to be later than the classic Hopewell phase monitor pipes.

As much as you can tell from a picture, I like what I see regarding authenticity compared to the average eBay junk piece out there... Certainly worth the 25 to 35 dollars for a paper if you are going to sell it via the Internet. I'd stick with one of the bigger names Davis, Jackson or Berner on it, but Jim Bennett would also give you a respected opinion.

Depending on where you live, there might be a show in driving distance and you could get it looked at in person. If it's a good pipe and a good show the buyers won't care what the COA says as we generally form our own opinions anyway.
