Does anyone know what kind of rock this is?

Need geographic location found, on land or in the water, desert maybe...scale or coind for image size...all kinds of background you need to provide to assist in this identification game...

Do we expect a quiz later?

Looks to be a bubbly formation of druzzy quartz on chalcedony with carbonates, the red orange, coating it in spots. It formed in an active hydrothermal vent pocket and may have had softer material in the vugs at one time giving it the bubbly appearance. The carbonates are a secondary deposite and may be the remains of the softer material. Seen specimens like this in MO as a kid.

DD nailed it. But I think the brownish-orange coating could also be limonite.

Thanks for the info. I bought it at a local resale shop for $5. So I'm not sure of its origins.
