Need help identifying buttons

Need help id'ing. Was found on a revolutionary war battle site (private property). The gold plate button I can see possibly "ext" on the back, but the most of the gold on the front is worn off with no visible design. Can anyone who knows about buttons give their two cents? Thanks!

The “ex” is most likely part of “extra gilt”. Picked up some very similar buttons here in Virginia. They may actually be exact matches.
