Hi! I recently purchased a porcelain cup and would like some help identifying the markings at the bottom of the cup. Would appreciate any information I can get about this beautiful cup. TIA!
Your mug is in ‘Gzhel’ style and from that region of Russia but I think that’s a generic mark used by a number of workshops in the area and not actually from the original factory founded in 1818 by Yakov Kuznetsov.
The word in blue (can’t read it) will likely be the actual workshop/town mark or an artist name. The square mark looks like it has ‘2c’ within it, which would be for ‘2 copt’… ie second quality.
I think you’ll find it’s vintage-modern, but Gzhel pottery has been a popular souvenir for visitors for many years and is widely sold outside the region too. Here’s something similar from a Russian handicraft site, although currently out of stock:
