Need help IDing

Hello,
I haven't really found anything to post in a while but my friend has a piece he asked me to put on to see if anyone could ID it? Him & his brother were at a creek in the early 90's & his brother slipped in the mud & out popped this!

Also if anyone could help with what the other pic I have, to me it looks like it could be a Mastodon tooth? or just trash? Before I risk going for it. (its at an opening of a river & a creek)

Nice blade/preform. Looks like a molar I would be going for it. What do you have to loose? Also may be signs of a very old culture there. Take pics when you dig okCool.

Thx TnMTN, I'll let my friend know! He thought it was a point but I told him I thought it looked like a knife/blade.

I was thinking molar also! but its about 12-15ft from the bank that I took the pic from! & the water drops off DEEP about 1/2' from the bank. The bank right above it is almost vertical. A friend thought we might be able to get to it with a borrowed boat. I'll keep you informed!

I'm intrigued by your mystery object. I would check it out---borrow that boat.
It is pretty amazing what we find out there. You would be very lucky if it were a molar.I hope it is. It has been my experience that it could be anything. I wish you luck,let us know what it was.

Kinda looks like it was hafted,kinda like a beavertail shape...nice artifact

Found where? Would like to see a better shop of that hafting area of the top piece. Not sure if it's stemmed, damaged, or been monkeyed with. Not sure about the piece in the bank either. The "lobes" appear chevron, which would rule out mastodon. But, pics will often fool you.

Is it across a creek? Swim it or maybe put on a life jacket and get over there : ) You can do it Demoncatspacer !!!!! Be safe though we want pics.

Here is our rule for water.

1. If you can walk across it, its a stream.
2. If you can throw a rock across it, its a creek.
3. If you cant throw a rock across it, its gotta be a river.
4. If you cant see the other side, you must be on vacation !!

Hi DemonCat, Go get it! Good luck. But yeah, stay safe. We have a similar situation, but the bone we can see is about 8 ft above the water, 6 ft down from the top of the bank. The mud at the water looks like your's does, very soft. This winter, we're going to try reaching it from the topside. Not sure how though. Please keep us posted.

Update: Well the object turned out to be a bunch of leaves! Oh well I'm gonna keep looking! Thanks for everyones replies & nature girl good luck with yours!
