Lunch break hunt at mill site. This brass I assume . Thought it was part of a pocket knife while it was packed with dirt but now ...no clue

I'll scrap any nondescript bits I find but I NEVER throw away an unknown "part" . the last time I tossed some unknown parts against a tree stump was about 35 years ago, I later learned they were cannon ball fuses. I went back but they were gone.
