Some other photos I took that show there are no seams on the coin!20180517_083925.webp

It might be a 1 real vellon coin from Spain, probably from the rein of Phillip IIII, since it has Portugal depicted on the shield. I could only find this on a dutch liard 1643, from a quick look. The dark color makes it look debased. I would say its either Madrid, Seville or Valadorid. A 1 real should be about 3.4 grams. Most European silver coins of this period were produced on round flans using a machine press, and would not look like it does, which is a cob-type colonial planchet.

Well now...

I just finished posting on an Asian item I formed an opinion on stating how hard it can be to form a solid opinion on an item posted here via pictures.

BUT... your new pictures have now changed my mind... PLUS the fact that you have tested this for silver.

My opinion is now swayed towards a real coin.

And note to all those who post items here on Treasurenet in hopes of identification... MORE pics and DETAILS ... HELP.

At first glance on these along with Phipps's opinion led me to form the "replica" opinion.

I will let the other coin guys explore the mint etc.

Oh sheesh.... I just saw this was weeks ago ... arrg

Umm... heh... hope this did not get thrown in the "junk pile" or scrap. :/

Its Phipps's fault if it did :)

:P

Thanks for your assessments guys! I gave the coin away to some kid at a Pirate festival because you said it was a fake! Now I'm going to hire a lawyer and sue the both of you. Just Kidding! I took it to a coin shop that specializes in old foreign coins and he confirmed that is is in fact genuine. But thanks for your opinions!

Congratualtions n3tuf on the nice coin! :icon_thumleft:
