There is a way to date it by the style of the cross. You need to look it up.

Yes, I noticed it is longer than on most 8 reals. Is there any good online resource for Cob coins? Google mostly shows up auction listings

I am not sure. I have two cobbs. Had a member in the club I belong to help me with identifying mine.
