I have a few Mother of pearl Chinese hand carved gaming counters
Can some one tell me what the letter or letters are carved in to this casino chip?
I think they are from the 18oos based on my research , found them in an estate sale with a bunch of mother of pearl tokens
Any value?
Thanks so much for looking and your advice

Thanks to all that replied
I also considered the letter F, but had concerns about the squiggled line to the right, considered it might be a second letter
Also considered the letters G and J
Not sure of 1700s - 18oos script, tried to find a chart to no avail

Agree. Edwardian script 'F'

There are loads of them on ebay. The asking prices appear to be all over the place. Actual sales are in the $5 to $15 range.

This token appears to be hand engraved and can be classified as a calligraphy style still used today.

Actually it appears to be similar to a 'Love Token' possibly with the lovers initial engraved.

If it were engraved on a coin, which is most common, it could be easily dated.

However its most likely a 'One-Off' item and dating would be extremely difficult to determine.

If is in fact a Love Token, the people involved were probably wealthy and lived in or near a large city.

One usually doesnt find silversmiths, jewelers or engravers in rural areas.

Certainly not a gift afforded by a farm boy going off to war or to the gold fields, and the like.
