This coin is a modern fantasy item. I believe that the Georgia Mint, a private firm which produces souvenir replica & fantasy Confederate coins in a variety of denominations, may have issued a half dollar variety similar to this one.

The design is adapted from that of a genuine Confederate cent. You can see a restrike of that coin at:

there are large amounts of fake coins laying in wait (mostly chinese made fakes but there are some american outfits like "georgia mint"===some of the coins are "artifically aged" to look old and are mostly at sold flea markets * / tourist trap places --- as "fantasy coins" -- which since they do not exactly match up with any known "real" coin (because of this their not illegal)l because they do not exactly copy known "real money"--- however to those who do not know what the "real deal" looks like they appear to be "real" --- flea market hucksters take "advantage" of this lack of knowledge by rubes.

others are outright "fakes" illegally made "exact" copies of known historical high value coins .
