Need help with MD

I just got my Fisher FT a few days ago, and I know nothing about MDs but I'm trying to learn. I have just been out hunting 4 times and my problem is sometimes my MD will go crazy with all the diferent tones beeping everywhere I swing and even if I hold the coil 2 ft or more off the ground it still does it. Doing this with IRON notched out and sensitivity about middle ways. Anybody know what's going on. Is my new Fisher F2 MD defective? Or what?

One place it did it was in a park inside the city. The reason I went there is I can remember a public swimming pool there 50 some years ago. Other place was around an old school. Would trash even make it do that with the coli 2 ft or more off the ground?

Two feet off the ground sounds like a soda can or large target. Try turning the sesitivity down halfway until you learn the machine.

G.A.P., I think you may be right here. After doing quite a bit of reading today I had about figured out it is probably some kind of electrical interference. I will take my MD out to diferent places in a day or so and do some more checking. Thanks a bunch for taking time to help.

Keppy is right.....However to back up G.A.P. Metal, EMI is your enemy. Electrical Interference Essay by First Texas Lead Engineer Dave Johnson Also make sure your coil cover is clean of any dirt inside.
