My guess would be the 40's.

I think the base metal is pewter, it was made in the 1920's and it's likely for holding tea leaves. :icon_thumright:

My guess would be tea before powder.

Perhaps "gunpowder" tea (my favorie green tea) ;-)

I agree with 1920s or even slightly later or earlier depending on if it was made overseas or America.

Where are the kanji reading experts when needed?
Tea leaf container woth a lid that does not fasten atop it seems weird to me... But I have no idea what it is, I would guess inkwell...
