hunt around southern va and northern tn. and idk anything valuable

Hey, I guess it depends then on how much you want to spend and the time you'll set aside to use it. I have a Minelab SE and love it but also spend allot of time using it. I'm sure you can get great results with most any detector as long as your patient enough to learn how to work it. I only chose the Minelab because in Williamsburg you have many hunted out areas and wanted to make sure I could get down deep. It paid off because the first time I took it to an old dig area I found a 1773 VA 1/2 Pennie. The coin in its present condition would go for about $300. ( judging the ones sold on Ebay). Just make the commitment to be patient and practice and finally do your research on potential areas and you will be successful. Even a day of finding trash I feel so good just getting out and digging. Win/Win for me. Hope this helps.

aight thanks man ill look into minelabs

You'll get as many ideas as there are detectorists on this one, LOL! You'll find Minelabs to be great detectors, but also spendy. You'll find the Garrett Ace 250 to be inexpensive, but a good little unit for a beginner.

Some say buy the most expensive detector you can afford, some say buy the least. I opt for the latter, at least until you know if it suits you or not. Then get the spendy ones if you get hooked on it, like most of us have.

Sir Taco:
Radio Shack has some pretty good MD's at a lower price .. $150 .oo or/so
Try one of their's first
They're made by The "Bounty" MD Company
No sense in spending a lot of money if you're just looking to start out!
You may not like to hobby !

My first MD was a Prizm 5 made by Whites and still is. Love it. Thinking about selling it and moving up a notch or two.
