Found an unusual site and I'd like to figure out what was being done here to help in the location of artifacts. I dug a circular brass whatsit' along with what appear to be the remains of those old large single cell dry telephone batteries. The location is next to a creek at the base of a mountain at the end of an overgrown road. Does anyone recognize what the brass item might be? It's 6" in diameter. Thanks.

It appears to be a stove pipe collar.

I thought the same thing at first, but the rim is 1" wide which would leave you with a 4" stove pipe. I always thought they were 6" & 8"? I guess I could be looking at the remains of someones front porch stoop. I know the road dates back as far as the late 1800's.

Lamp or lantern shade ring?

Are the foundation bricks white washed?

DC, I didn't examine the bricks closely enough, I will have to go back down and take a look.
