🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Needle used for crochet?

The site I dug this from in Tabb, VA is a colonial era farm that survived up to the civil war so I get a wide range of artifacts from it. This appear to be a needle with thread inside. The thread is still there and I was told it was probably silk because it has not disappeared. What do you call it?

Neat find. It's a tatting shuttle, used to knot thread to make intricate patterns in a similar manner to the way lace is made.

Very cool. Any research on the site found compared to the initials”ATM”? Your question of value is to the normal person….if you could find a link from the owner to someone living today i (personally) would call it invaluable.

Should have done that long ago when I found it. This site sits on a colonial farm that was occupied by multiple owners spanning both revolutionary war and civil war. It is right along the road from Hampton to Yorktown.
