"Normal AA batteries are around +/-1.56 volts (new) times four a detector would be +/- 6.24 volts (new). Rechargeable are 1.2 volts times four are 4.8 volts (max). If the detector requires 5 volts to operate at 100% efficiency, then you are out of luck. If the internal requirements are a regulated 3.3 volts then life is good. An interesting point; I use a 8.6 volt (9 volt battery) in my Garrett Pin Pointer with long life and no power issues.
