I got permission to hunt a new spot just after getting chased out of one of my regular fields by deer hunters. The timing was great for me. I did dig a lot of junk, since the field is bordered by two roads and is pretty remote. I promised the land owner I would clear a lot of junk out of their field and I did. I was pretty happy with the Indians but especially happy with the V and the dime. Plenty of ground left to cover. I had a heart stopper when a broken Ball jar kept sounding high tone after the zinc cap was out of the hole. What a surprise - - - this one had two zinc caps buried in the hole.

Very nice! What is the history of the field? Old home site?? :dontknow:

This is an interesting property that is teaching me a lot about how things were done in the 1800s. I can pretty well tell that there were at least two if not three home sites on this property. They are all within a 100 feet or so of each other. The first one I found on a map. You can never tell just how accurate the maps might be, but it gave me a place to start. The owner told me that they had bulldozed the home site and buried a lot of junk in a hole. I really wasn't worried, because I was sure the home site I wanted was quite a ways from the bulldozer work. I was right. I can see the glass and brick and I have dug enough house hold stuff to verify that there was a house there many years ago. I think people built a quick place to get started on a property and worked on a fancier house near by later. Sometimes new owners just moved over and built a new house. Never assume you have the only house site located when you are hunting one of these fields. It pays to wander around a little.
