Hi everyone,
Been doin the usual hunting. A few hrs here and there. It started last week Thursday night I was at my favorite old park. It was slow like usual but it has it's moments.
Luckily there more frequent than not. I picked up the 17 wheat and then almost at the end of the hunt found a really nice 1902 barber dime in like Au condition.
I was happy with that and called it a evening. Friday, I took my youngest son out for a hr and a half back to the old park. I found the 1922 trolley token and a 1890 V-nickle. I was happy with that so I ended that hunt.
Saturday, Was the big day I guess you could say. My Dad, had a idea were some old foundations were off a old rd he used to live on. I am very familar with the area and said you know what I think your right.
Well he picked up my brother and we all met up at the site. It looked good. Alot of older foundations off the rd together. We all started and about 15minutes into the hunt I found two buffaloes in one hole. One was a 36 and the other a no date.
My Dad has yet to find even a wheatie. As soon as I dug them I called him over and said start hunting around here. I didn't think he was really gonna hunt 2 ft off of me and make my detector go crazy.
But he did and was rewarded with his first old coin. He loves buffaloes to. I would have found it but he detected it all own his own. He was so excited I had to tell him to slow it down.
The sacrifice of the one coin to see how happy he'd really be was amazing. I've found thousands of old coins and it's really just another day of hunting for me. It made his day and week probably.
After that it was slow. I think it was hit at one point. All my good signals were on the perimeter of the site. Although when I got to the edge of the foundation I found a old chinese cash coin.
I dated it to around 1890 or a lttle earlier. Lance ended the hunt with 6 wheats in one hole.
We then went home and took a break. I had a very good idea were another cellar hole was located. We decided to go and look for it. I was right it was there after a long walk in the woods.
It didn't pan out though. The land was all used for dumping and it just wasn't suitable for hunting. Oh well that is the way it goes sometimes. The structure was still standing and was atleast from 1876.
The next one will be better. We still wanted to do some hunting though. So I took us to a bluff that overlooks a old ball field.
I found a 35 merc and a 42 and a 23 wheat. I also got the chain and some relics. I ended the weekend on that. I had to much to do Sunday.
I hope you all like the pics and story. Thanks for looking.

Actually since I fell and broke myself, I find that MDing is one of the things I can do for a couple of hours a day without causing me too much discomfort, so I get out at daybreak to beat the heat in the summer and go out early afternoon after it warms up in the winter. I have been out with a few icecycles on my nose in the winter if I find a good spot though. I wish my Dad was still around and I really envy you guys that have that opportunity to share with your Dads. Heck I wish one of my kids would take an interest and go with me for that matter, but they all live too far away or have to work to support my grandkids. Can you imagine that? Anyway, Jer, keep your Dad busy and you will have him a long time and someday those moments will be precious to you. Sentimental old fart..... Monty
