Finally got to get out to a private farm that I got permission to hunt at. We had to wait until hunting season is over because of too many hunters. There was a Civil War Battle here and obviously huge potential. The farm is about 1,000 total acres with woods, fields, old farmhouse etc.
Anyway, Ronin and I got out today and since he is a big "artillery hound" he has been studying old maps of the battle and pointed out where we should begin. Before long he called me over and bamm!! he strikes again. A 10Pd Dyer Case Shot. Since we were behind the Confederate lines of the battle it is probably Union.
We spent about 5 hrs there today it did not even begin to touch all the potential of the farmland. I found a Dyer Shell base and we both found several large pieces of shrapnel, and musketballs and lots of "What is its" AS you know from earlier pieces Ronin has done well in the artillery finds, but the Dyer was a first for his collection. I was glad I was able to bring him to a new area and appreciated his knowledge and know how.

I hope to be able to show pictures in the future of more finds because the private farm has a lot of potential.

The pictures are of the Dyer shell and will post pictures later of the shrapnel and "what is its"

ADDED : The new pics are no where near as exciting as the shell but here is some of the schrapnel, piece of a buckle and soem "what are theys" Anybody have an idea what the round find is with threads on the outside? It is iron, heavy and about a 2in diameter and 2.5 inches tall.

Also not real sure what the diamond shape object is. It is hard to see ,but there is a loop at one end.

Wow, nice find!
I've never seen such yellow rust before. It almost looks like someone smeared mustard on that shell.

Hi Sniffer,
It seems to really pretty preserved. It's going out to Richmond today for cleaning and disarming. the parameters are: Diameter 2.94 inches, length 7 inches, weight 10 lbs

This is a really great spot and im thankful that Whippetdog shared it with me. The man is a research hound and it pays off big time. This area is going to be a big producer of artillery shells. I can't wait to get back!!! :o

I prefer ketchup myself. :o It actually came from clay so I think what looks yellow is the dirt and the flash at night. More to come..... :P
