Found this pastSaturday. Not sure if it's a piece of coin or medal. Help appreciated.

It's part coin... either a 1 Real Spanish silver coin, or a 2 Real! Looks like it's early 1800s, but I'm no expert.

Sure looks like a coin to me. No expert either. Is it silver?

Thgats awesoe try to find the other half

Definitely looks like half of a one real Spanish silver coin. Lots of silver coins were cut for change in the past but I'm curious how that one ended up that way. Looks more broken than cut. Congrats on a sweet find!

It definitely looks like a Spanish real from the late 1700's to early 1800's. Here's a similar one I found online. Awesome find!

trace out the diameter with a compass, appears it will fit nicely for a 2 Real, then search 2 Real for portrait match and now you have the date range for that king. looks like they tried to cut it, gave up & broke it---still too cool!

I agree with everyone else. Its part of a piece of Spanish silver.

Thanks everyone. Believe you me , now that I got the scent, I'll run it down.

You are killing me!

It's a Spanish silver... dang man. It's broken as opposed to cut. There appears to be "score" lines across the face, where someone tried to cut it, but it must have broken instead, oops. looks like a 2 real... almost quarter size.

That's a super sweet find, congrats!

Agree with 1 real congrats on the old silver

South Louisiana

very nice, i have alot of family there, should be some great places to detect, did you find it in a field or house site or?

IN a field-looking for civil war stuff. probably a previous house site but not an old one.

South Louisiana is a good place to find those. ;) btw it's certainly not a 2 reales. Way too small for that. It's a broken half real, or as they called them back then in Louisiana, it's "a picayune."
