Went back to one of the old sites on Sunday not really expecting much, but it's always a good fall back field for a few hours at least. The rain tried to put a dampner on the day, but we just suited up and got our heads down. Got permission on a new field that was in stubble, this would keep us going for a few hours at least till the rain stopped.

After lunch the rain did indeed stop and we headed back to the old site which had just been ploughed, and the strong wind had dried it up for us to get on. The substantial Roman building that once stood there was fragmented all over the high part of the field, and had been dragged by the plough well up into the field. Finds from here are usually smashed, but a few escaped.

I managed four silver coins, a nice washed Silver Antoninianus a coin that replaced the debased silver denarius in the early part of the 3rd century, a broken Silver denarius of what looks like Julia Paula, and my first hammered of this field, cut quarter short cross and two 1900's silver sixpences. But my friend stole the day with a stunning 1st century Bovine Vessel Mount...not bad for a Old Site.

Nice going on the Roman finds, the mount is a killer find for sure. Getting a cut quarter is not easy and it shows your on your game for sure, well done.
Thanks....they must be lots to find and most probably get missed because of there size, I only found this after the second sixpence come out, it was right next to it, right on top in a piece of soil.
