Great site! I bought my son a metal detector about four years ago. He was really into it for a little while but Xbox came along, then cars and girls, so it has set in the closet since. I was doing some cleaning this week and dug it out. Of course he lost the manual so I went on line and found one. The detector is a Bounty Hunter Lone Star. ( I know not everyone's favorite

) I decide to try it out in the yard. What a blast! I found a hand full of change, pull tabs, a hot wheels car and some sun glasses. I also realize my back yard was a dump at one time. Had to turn off the iron detector.

Being an old arrowhead hunter I think I am hooked. I don't think I will find anything earth shattering in the Mid. Ga. area but it is still a blast. Now if I can make this thing find arrowheads :icon_scratch:

Hi Mike, welcome to the TNet forum and discovering the hobby. The Land Star is not a piece of junk that some claim, it is the lower ones that discourgage many from keeping at the hobby. You must learn your detector well and study the manual. Some of the hunters on the Bounty Hunter forum thread can help also with questions.

It is all about the fun, not how much loot you find, though that helps you feel good. You can also watch the ground for arrow heads.

Thanks, I did not realize the site had so many different forums. Guess I should have started with the home page

How would you guys search an old home site? Would you hit the places you think would be good, like where the old swing was etc. or would you work it like a lawn mower and just go back and forth until you cover the whole yard. Also do you mark the spots and come back and dig or is it better to just dig as you go? I know these are amateur questions but I fit that description. :dontknow:

At old home sites I have had my best luck along old sidewalks and beneath old clothes lines. I can't figure why so much was dropped and lost under a clothes line but it was. Also trky right up next to a foundation. And my first detector was a BH and I did as well with it as anything I have used to date. Just wouldn't pull the really deep coins and the seperation in junky areas wasn't as strong as some I have used. The recovery speed was great however. I sometimes regret trading mine. Welcome friend.

Back about 50 years ago most backyards were dumps. We lived in a nice area yet most people burned their own paper trash in a 50 gal. drum and buried what was left in the yard. I've dug all sorts of loot by simply finding and digging out these shallow trash pits. I use a screen sifter mounted over a wheelbarrow and simply shovel the trash into it. I find old coins, loads of spoons, figurines, plates, cups, jewelry, marbles, tokens, toys, tools, etc.

Welcome to T-Net, Mike. Never underestimate that BH detector you have. There are a lot of folks that won't use anything else, including my wife! The good finds come from knowing what the detector is telling you. Again, welcome to the hobby and glad to hear your enjoying it thus far.

Welcome to T-Net. That bounty hunter is a very good machine and will find what all the others will. Take it to the spots you like to hunt artifacts and see what happens. :thumbsup:

Welcome to TNET! You will be surprised what you can find in your own yard, especially if your home is a little older. Lot of history in middle GA so enjoy the hunting and show us what you find.....
