New Headhunter PI

I just bought the Headhunter PI myself, with the 11" coil. It is suprising light for such a big coil-even underwater it handles wonderfully. It has a 15uS pulse delay which means it is very sensitive to gold, esp. thin rings and chains. It doesn't discriminate so dig everthing! (I always do anyway-even when I had VLF machines-you'd be suprised how wrong the descrominators are sometimes.) It has proven to be a great machine so far. Swing it low and swing it slow and you should start finding stuff.

I have a new HH.If you detecting only whit front (tip) side of the coil your pintpoint will be better.I found 860 pesos in Acapulco Mexico, three gold ring, four silver ring, one hevy silver chain, one silver bracalet.I worked about 32 hrs.

The HH is a nice PI machine and very light weight. You will dig everything since it has almost no discrimination. It will prove to be very deep which is needed where the sand moves around covering things. Find a clean area on the sand and lay some different targets down including different gold rings, white and yellow gold and see what settings you need for that area.

HH,
Sandman

I just made my first trip to the ocean with the new Headhunter PI. It seems to work very well, but I am used to a VLF detector so I think it will take some getting used to. I was wondering if anyone out there has some tips on using a PI detector, any brand. ???
Who makes the Headhunter?

I have a Garrett Sea Hunter MkII that is a PI unit. It does have a discrimination feature that works better than I ever expected. It will do especially well on the nemesis pulltabs, and still pick up silver and gold. The thing I don't like about it is that you never know the depth of your target. The manual says you can tell deep from shallow by the volume of the tone, shallow being louder than deep. But to figure that out, ideally you would have to bury some targets at a known depth and establish a baseline. Not worth the effort if you are on a timeline. The good thing is that it doesn't send false signals. If it indicates a target it is there.....but it may be 18" deep! Just info for a comparison of your detector. Monty

kick ass BCH!!!

My HH PI finally arrived tonite. I am having trouble keeping a threshold. It is erratic and not a solid tone that I am used to. Maybe there is too much trash in my backyard. I tried to air test but no luck. Is this erratic tone normal for the threshold? ??? ???Can anyone help?

hit it with a hammer NOT a big one ,a small one will surfise .... ::) ;) kidding sorry no clue

I tried hitting it with a hammer, and now it doesnt work at all. :P

Just joking, of course. I tried bench testing. If I turn the tuner to the left almost off, the erratic threshold quiets down. I am probably losing depth this way. I will need more testing to get used to it. This thing really zings if iron is within a couple feet of the coil in any direction.

I had the same problem with my white's surfmaster pi... turned out there was a lot of electrical interference in my neighborhood. worked great once i got away from "civilization".

On a side note... Mr. Bill @ surfscanner detectors is great. I know he deals with headhunter machines... but if you have an older whites pi machine, (along with some other machines), he offers and upgrade to them. Makes them a TON more sensitive. When i got to the beach there was a noticable difference. Air testing the machine before the work, i would get solid hits @ about 15" with my wife's wedding ring. After the work, almost 24". I would reccommend Mr. Bill and his work to anyone. I posted his site below for anyone interested

Are there any power lines nearby? or buried in the vicinity?
Even the ol' ceiling fan screws it up........

So the erratic threshold sounds are not normal? I didnt get a chance to get away today. Yes, there are powerlines in the back yard. I didnt know PI units were that sensitive. Thats OK because I am only planning on using this unit on the beach. Maybe tommorrow I will test. Thanks. :)

Power lines especially and buried electric, phone lines etc...even your common sprinker system will screw with it.
.....you'll never get a smooth threshold.....
Take it where you want to hunt...........and then set threshhold.
Good luck, tell us how you make out.

Get diggin !!!
