1st - I noticed this was your very first post - so, Welcome Aboard. You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forums: Select Your Area.... for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country).

How to Identify Arrowheads

Native Americans designed many different arrowheads — about 1,200 types are on record...

Thank you! I found it on the edge of a lake in the sand. I’ll post pictures of the other side soon. Any idea what time period it is? I’m almost positive it’s made of agate.

Welcome to tnet from Niagara Falls.

Is there any grinding on the base? In other words, do the sides up near the base feel smoother than the lower blade edge? If so it's probably a Late Paleo/Early Archaic type. It's definitely a great looking Point. Congrats on the killer find!

Nice find. No expert here but looks like quartz. I've seen a few similar. I'm sure an expert will follow my opinion. :icon_thumright:

And welcome to Tnet.

Thank you Reaper! The edge definitely seems smoother at the base. Do you think it was used as a knife blade?

Most likely a small Paleo Lancelot type. Hopefully some of the western guys will chime in.

:hello: Welcome to tnet!

You will certainly become addictive to this past-time of hunting for artifacts. As to your point, it is beautiful point and looks like a clear agate or quartz. Due to it's nice workmanship it looks to be a ''Transitional Paleo'' or an ''Early Archaic'' Good luck in the future hunting.

Helluva nice point, and it really comes to life with the light shining through it. I agree with Grim that it looks early. Agate Basin, maybe?

image.webpThank you for all the input guys! It’s much appreciated. I’m new at this so the identification charts I’ve found online can be a little tricky. It seems like there are very subtle differences that I haven’t developed an eye for yet.
And yes Digger.... since finding my first point, a surface find that I picked up while hiking initially not realizing what it was, I’ve certainly become addicted and have spent most of my free time hunting. We’ve recently come across what seems to be a serious hotspot with evidence of many generations of Native American presence. Here are some other finds from the same spot as the first point I posted. 482C9059-A9E5-405A-A143-A31F17C11D70.webp2C4440BE-D047-4611-BB4B-ADB55DF54938.webp699A8EE3-6376-4EA7-8ED0-C64984BADDA3.webpA3F90E42-9C93-4A82-83E7-CEE799CF4CAD.webp269E23AA-E4C9-42B2-9E2E-ECA85F6FDD12.webpC0C5067B-2C37-4CD4-80E3-9F7C465E5B7D.webpimage.webp

Heading out soon to a different spot we’ve had our eye on for a while now. I’ll post pictures if we have any luck.

Looks like you are finding some very nice materials also. Good Luck!
