While looking through some of my earlier metal detecting coin finds I happened to look a little closer at a couple of 1909 wheat cents. Low and behold there was a VDB on the obverse of one of them. How did I miss that? Go figure! lol FullSizeRender - 3.webpFullSizeRender.webp

I've searched my dug wheaties a few times, the VDB just never appears.

Nice job

I purchased a wheat set on Ebay, and it had a 1909. Looking close, I found it was a 1909 s VDB! After getting it authenticated by PCGS, sold it for a considerable profit. Just saying it pays to look at ALL wheats closely.

Congrats on your 1909 VDB and thanks for sharing the information, wish you many great finds while out dirt fishing.

What does that mean ?

Right on the very bottom under United States of America. I did not see the VDB when I first found the coin. It is a little more valuable with a VDB. thQH5N2H5X.webp

The 1909 V.D.B. cent was designed by Victor David Brenner. 27,995,000 were struck, after that his initials were dropped off the back. The 1909 s V.B.D. only had 484,000 struck making it a rarer coin.

Also Brenners initials were put back on Lincoln cents in 1918. Located under lincons shoulder. The 1909s with out the s mint mark are worth around $20 while the ones with the s can go for over $700 even in well worn condition

Good job on noticing the vdb
