New Member: First finds....

New Member and new to CRH. All of these posts have been extremely helpful and informative. We've been following the forums for some time and decided to try our luck in CRH. Our first experience with halves was $180 in loose rolls we picked up at a local bank, we found nothing. We called numerous banks found one with $300 in loose halves and ordered our first box from another bank. The $300 we picked up produced our first 40% kennedy! We picked up our first box from the bank on Tuesday and landed another 40% kennedy, decided to order another box for thursday. Tuesday night we decided to get a box of dimes and 2 boxes of quarters, we ended up pulling out 2 dimes and 3 quarters from those. Thursday we picked up our second box of halves and scored! 12 90% kennedy halves, our first franklin! (1951 s) and 20 40% kennedy halves! We also found a 1995 S commemorative half, anyone have any idea if its worth anything? Today we picked up another $300 of halves at a local bank near our dump site and scored 6 more 40% kennedys! So far I think we've been extremely lucky, but we are hooked on CRH now

ah geez - thats some amazing luck out of the gates. im pretty new to this too, but i just finished opening up my 9th and 10th boxes of halves - and ive accumulated a grand total of 3 40% and 1 90%

also no banks around here carry any loose half rolls at all. Do you hit up more rural banks or big mainstream ones?

Hey,
Congratulations on your first big score. 4.702 troy ounces of silver in 13 silver Franklin and 1964 Kennedy half dollars. You also picked up 2.9579 troy ounces of silver in 20 silver 1965-1970 Kennedy half dollars. Then you had your earlier scores on halves, quarters, and dimes. You are off to a good start!

I'd recommend getting a red book or a blue book to evaluate the value of the coins you find. Unfortunately most "S" mints pulled from rolls are impaired proofs and generally are not of much value. Having said that, I keep them all and you never can tell how close to premium one will pay for one they want.

Yes, as Steve suggests, purchase a "Red Book." It is highly helpful as it list coins, values, grades, etc.

AGninja: We live in a town with about 90,000 + people, so I would say it's not rural banks. However, we went to 3-4 of the bigger banks and I think 2 of the lesser known ones. It's hard to say what the read is on CRH around here. There are about 70 banks in a 5 mile radius from home and I know of atleast one coin shop within the area. We did some calling around to banks yesterday and found out we were following someone else just after they picked up all the halves. I just think that we have been incredibly lucky.

Steve: Wow! Very informative! You really know your stuff. For now we are using the website Coinflation for the silver values. Seems to be pretty accurate. We will get a red book soon (no time right now. too busy looking through halves).

Apush: Is there a 12 step program? We're already addicted!
