I am a new member on here and thought I would post my first story.

I just got my first metal detector last night. After reading the manual, and testing various objects, I decided to go into my back yard. I took a quarter I had in my pocket, and tossed it into the yard, figuring I knew the general area and would be able to find it in a short amount of time.

After about 5 minutes of searching, I found the quarter with the MD. What I didn't compensate for was how dark it was. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to pull it out of the grass in the dark.

That being said, I have been hunting for 15 minutes, and I now down twenty - five cents. This apparently is an expensive hobby.

Figured you experienced MDers would get a kick out of this.

Nice!!

It's light out there now...go out and get it back...and find some of his friends also!

Once you get going though it is a payoff hobby.

I spent 300 on my ACE 250 about 5 months ago or so and have found around 1000+ dollars worth of goodies with it.

Its a VERY addictive hobby!

Welcome aboard to Tnet,
Jason

lol fun story! I would have had a flashlight out there and had all the neighbors wondering what is up! too funny! Wait for the sun to come up and go find lots more. Welcome to Tnet!

Its not about the payoff though, Its a great hobby. I enjoy digging everything but pulltabs.

That's exactly right. If your not having fun and relaxing your taking it to seriously. Good Luck.

LOL!! I did the same thing except I threw a quarter, dime, nickle, and a penny. Never did find that darn nickle! Things sink fast in this Florida sand!

Quick update and a question. I did a search this afternoon, and came up with a little. One penny (clad), one washer, one piece of siding and one aluminum bracket.

My question is this. I was detecing behind my fence and kept getting hits, however, when I switch to the discrimination option (on the lowest level) it all went away. What would I usually find if I dug up all these hits?

Got to love those pulltabs!

You say: "Quick update and a question. I did a search this afternoon, and came up with a little. One penny (clad), one washer, one piece of siding and one aluminum bracket. My question is this. There's simply no way for an old-timer to answer that question in "print". It involves things like sound, which can not be described in print. The "kept getting hits" means one thing to one person, and another thing to another person. It can't be put into text. Things like that have to be swapped back & forth in person, on-site. No way to describe a sound and feel in print.

It would be like telling someone "please describe the note of C minor in printed text". Cant' be done. It has to be heard. There's no substitute for flagging targets with a veteran and trying back & forth (hearing what he's isolating, hearing what he's rejecting, etc...).
