Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
Good Morning. Glad to be here and hope I can be an asset to the site by helping and getting help.
I'm a 63 year old retired sales rep with time on my hands beyond the "honey dooos" and love metal
detecting. Primarily I am a coin shooter who has also found some very nice jewelry treasures. I have
just this year, (the past month) started hunting the beach and love it. My best find to date is a gold
banded diamond worth in excess of $3500.00 prior to it being cleaned by a reputable jeweler. Ring had
maker's mark and designer's stamp but no way to find owner. On the other hand, my buddy found a
class ring from USC that had the initials and year of graduation and I helped him go through the class
year the ring showed and we identified the man who lost it and returned it to him. That incident is what
got me hooked on detecting at the beach. Since then, I have found numerous jewelry items but without
any identity. Look forward to being a part of this site.

Cool Story.
Did the Jeweler mess up your Ring?
That Ring Return was a Great thing to Do.
Have you dug many Civil War / Colonial relics Around where you live?
Sry, So many Questions.
Welcome to the site.

I live less than 4 miles from Snow's Island where General Francis Marion's main camp was. The laws here state that where there are no municipality, or county laws regarding
metal detecting, state law prevails. Therefore, I can't even metal detect legally the boat ramp directly across from the General's camp. You can actually see across the river
where he camped. It is also a hunting preserve that the state let's hunters go in and hunt deer and wild hogs. I have heard of stories of many things laying on the ground
and being picked up by these hunters and hauled away. It doesn't make sense that a hunter (and I am a hunter also) can pick up a piece of history, put it in his pocket and
drive his pick up right out of the preserve with no questions asked and I can't even take my detector to the landing across the river in an assembled state. Why would the
state not see that us mdtrs are actually "preserving" history. All I want is a picture with my Iphone that I can keep. It really ticks me off excuse the language but I can't
for the life of me understand. I did find through some extensive research, his horse pen on this side of the river near an old, and I mean old, railroad track used during
the war to get product across Big Pee Dee River. That too has been ramsacked long ago by hunters. ****As for the ring, he had to re-size it for my wife after we couldn't
find the owner. It was originally "stretched" and he had to cut that piece out and re-assembled to her size in gold. The jeweler wasn't there when she went back to pick
it up but the lady told my wife that she should insure it for nothing less than $5,000.00. He did a great job of cleaning and polishing it and the diamonds up. It is hugely
noticeable when she wears it. It without a doubt at all was custom made. I have never seen one that had so many big diamonds and also with diamonds mounted on the
side portion of the band also in gold leaf. Hope this answers your question. My problem here is there is no-one else I know of in the county but myself and 2 other guys
that even hunt with metal detectors. Other than Historical sites, National parks, Indian burial grounds, South Carolina is pretty lenient on their mdting laws. I started back
about a year ago (June 2014) and no doubt I have over 40 pounds of coins mostly pennies. My son works with a guy who is also a paramedic and he is a relic hunter. His
hours are very long, (24 hour shift on with 24 off) and makes it difficult. He is dang good at relic hunting and we are planning to get together soon. There's a lot I could
learn from him. Gotta go now. Got kinda long winded but love the sport if you know what I mean.

Thanks very much

I guess that was what hooked me totally. This man was a couple years older than me (65) and he had not seen that
ring since the weekend he graduated when he was 22

Thanks and I appreciate the time you took to welcome me

Thanks for taking the time to welcome me. That Ace 350 is a jam up machine.
I don't think people realize how good it is. Keep working with it and try a Nel
coil. They hit hard and I mean h a r d .
