This is my first hunt for March and my 26th hunt for the year. My silver coin total for the year is 83 and I'm shooting for 100 silver coins by the end of March. My gold rings and silver jewelry finds don't count in this streak. I must get a silver coin on each and every hunt or the streak is over.

Right out of the gate this morning I found a 1928 Mercury Dime and a short while later I found a 1950 Rosie Dime with my F75DST. With my silver streak in tack, I'd decided to go back to the church site that I cherry picked for silver coins last week and see if I could recover a gold ring.

My weapon of choice was my Tesoro Tejon with a 8 inch concentric search coil. I set the discrimination just barely high enough to discriminate out a nail and started swinging away. That place is loaded with coins and trash.

I found plenty of coins and a 925 silver earring, but no gold ring. The way I figure it, there just has to be a gold there and I've got a good start at removing the trash so I can find one.

The Tejon is hot on low conductors and was banging nickels hard at 9+ inched deep, so I know if I get my search coil over a gold ring it's mine.

Thanks everyone! My detecting time and finds will lessen when the Summer heat gets here. I'm making hay while I can.

Tabman, way to persist and get the goods. New detectorists need a dose of reality and can look at your pile of digs and see the ratio. We have to be patient when digging public places, we have to dig a lot of "carp" to find that silver and gold! Sub 8-)
