I found this medal under a big pecan tree , at an old homeplace that dates back to the late 1800's.

SHERMANVILLE

The 1906 U.C.V. convention in New Orleans was an important one in the annuals of history for the Sons of Confederate Veterans. It was at this meeting that former Confederate general Stephen D. Lee issued the charge followed by the S.C.V. to this day:

"To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we will submit the vindication of the cause for which we fought. To your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldier's good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, and the perpetuation of those principles he loved. Remember, it is your duty to see that the true history of the South is presented to future generations."

For this reason, this may be one of the more valuable U.C.V. medals.
