New Park and Good stuff :-)

Went out today to a couple of out of town parks...who knows maybe they haven't been worked to death. Park #1 only got "Play dime 1970" Falsa Pecunia...very cool. Park #2 Got sum clad and a Mexico .925 ring, but very muddy and DEEP stuff there. Maybe try again later when it dries out.

Later I stumbled across a new park, not even on the maps yet...previously it had been old homes...starting pickin up wheaties right away.

Grass hasn't grown up yet, lots and lots and OLD derbis at the surface from all the construction. Not ten minutes in I look over and spot YELLOW just sticking out of the ground. I know THAT color Reach over and pluck killer 10K class ring with deep blue stone just laying on top... SO THAT'S the way to find 'em!!!!

Eventually land silver dime #15: a 1925 merc. But by far the coolest is the non-descript pin "Us Defense Agent/ Merit Award U.S. Treasury" Other neat stuff too...like part of silver plate bracelet, front says "Caorlyn" back says "Love Warren." Torch pin and tons of junk...the FUN kinda site where all the neat crap hasn't been dug yet.

I know, I know...parks...pfffft...whatever...

Just wanted to check to see if small town parks around columbus as HAMMERED as here, and the other spot is a NEW park made out of old neighborhood, so worth a look at least. I gotta come out of the woods ONCE in awhile, otherwise the cops think I'm setting up camp out there.

That is some cool stuff. That Defense Agent medal is very sweet. Of coarse not to take away from a big honky gold ring. Yeah, it's fun when you get all that interesting stuff.

Nick, perhaps I didn't phrase it quite right...parks have become the baine of my existance, I do not doubt your sincerity in the slightest.

Yes, there's always a few new good things turning up in parks these days, no one's go it all yet...but the finds are getting FAR fewer and less varied. It's that variation I miss, all the fun stuff. Scrubing the ground all day hoping to eak out one more silver dime just isn't all that fun to me. I miss sites like this new park, where a quarter ID might be something other than a clad quarter (like a merit award or something interesting).

And yes, I do rub the real Finger of Fate (sitting on my shelf) before I head out!

Did some research on the pin..."US defense agent merit award" is what people got for selling war bonds in WW II...very cool.

I agree. I found one earlier this year too. Couldn't really make out much detail on the one I found though . Let us know what it says. Great finds.
