Great looking bunch thirty7. Some of those types are what I see here. I think you are right on the Madison triangular. The outward curve on the base of number two the Palmer is a little diffrent. Kinda has the curve of some of the lost lakes but guess it is to wide and not wide enough to be the sunfish style. They are a great assortment and must be a welcome addition to your collection. Nice.

I'm not sure about the "Palmer" either. That's what it was described as from the site I bought it from though. It's larger than any Palmer I've seen, and it's beveled on one side? I think your right it could be a Lost Lake, or possibly a reworked Kirk.

Unfortunately I wont be hunting in Ohio or Kentucky anytime in the near future, so I purchased the first four points. The triangle is from a friend of my dad, I haven't secured that little beauty yet, but I hope too along with about 50 other fine points from Wv that he found in his yard. He has some killer bifurcates, kirks, and daltons.

I have always thought this to be a kirk bifuracte(sp?) But may not be sure now. I know its not a macorkle. Study the base it just way diffrent .Found in Hamilton county,Tn personal find. It seems to be a good example of whatever it is. 2 1/4" x 1".

I'm about 98% sure that that's one of these guys http://www.projectilepoints.net/Pages/Searches/Points/Big Sandy Contracted.html and a fine example too. This site has the timeframe wrong though, they are early archaic 10000bp - 7000bp , they're really old.


The blade profile really looks Big Sandy like.

Yes I think you guys are correct and thank you. I have that link but it always messes me up with the Overstreet. Its shows beaver lakes that look like ones I have thrown into buckets of preforms . Its is very hard for me to identify the material. We have much fort payne and dover flint here but to be honest its as if most everything I find is diffrent. Maybe a lot of heat treated chert.Have tried very hard to find a good book or refrence on flint/chert. I have about 6 or more real nice points that do not seem to match what overstreet says and the link you provided on this area. I know that cant be true because I only have two points given to me and they sit outside my personal collection.

i know what you mean, hopefully they update the site with more examples over time. I find it confusing on certain types as well, but it's about the best online reference available imo.

Thanks T. It's just over 2" , pretty big for the type, around here they're usually not much over an inch. What's the common size of a Madison in your area?

most of these are just over 1 inch.
