New roman site

Today i started a new roman site i was waiting for. During a little small talk with a farmer he told me about that field. He just begun harvesting and he did only a few rows. Unfortunately exact around the main area... The whole field is red from roman roof tiles and pottery, i collected some of the bigger ones to clean them at home and look for makers stamps. With near every swing of the coil i hit square nails, but missing lead. Not a good sign.
4 hours brought lots of trash a few coins only one toasted roman. I hope for next weekend when more is harvested.

So do you think someone hit it first (hence the lack of Lead)?

Maybe you are not in the main area where the lead is. Make sure you clear some nails, I find plenty of coins up against them :thumbsup:

Thats what i worry about. But no nighthawks, i'm leaning towards Franconians when they plundered roman homesteads for raw material. Otherwise i'm pretty sure that i missed some targets between all that iron. As there was only one row harvested in the middle :icon_scratch:

, and some like a frame around that field it doesn't make much sense to start aimless. The depression is more to one corner and i will start there next week. :occasion14:

Why can't they all be banner fields? Better luck next week Lu. What is the round thing with S on it, bottom left pic?

I don't know Tim. It's a big exact round piece of lead, flat on top and bottom with an 'I' one one side and 'S' cast in on the other. 1 1/2" diameter.

Keep trying might be looking in the Roman cemetery ... those red tiles were reused to cover the graves ... if you find many could be ..find the residential area of the villa will not be far. :icon_thumright:
