Went out with a friend early this morning, to a spot he found a few months back.

Hit a few targets, and as usual they are all encrusted.

I can pretty much tell from the shape what they may be before breaking them open.

If I spot signs of rust, it will probably be some iron, maybe a nail or similar;

However, I am particularly interested in these two 'lumps" as they are quite flat (so not shot or musket ball) and have dark gray stains in places - so hopefully not iron?

I'll clean these two carefully and post again

A couple, although clearly iron, have an interesting shape, so again, I'll spend a little time cleaning these two;

THANKS FOR LOOKING!

I live about 400 miles away from saltwater and have never hunted in any.
How do you get all the crust off items like yours ?

Seems like it would be a whole other hobby just cleaning them.

I feel for you - I live 400 yds from the saltwater:laughing7:

For the items that I am not too concerned about, or know cant be damaged (shot, canon ball) I soak in Ospho.

Ospho Rust Treatment - Since 1947

this breaks down the crust and leaves the object. Not good enough for a museum, but good enough for me!

this is one of the 'strange shaped' objects from this morning - already I can see some detail and more shape.

be careful if using -it bubbles and fizzes so wear safety glasses!!!

I couldn't imagine living away from the ocean. Never had a diving course, but I'll put that on top of the to do list. Looking forward to seeing what you've got there!!

Can't wait to see them after you had time to clean them up. Thanks for sharing...

Are you done cleaning yet? Get to those two flatter lumps, those are the ones I want to see!!!!!

Great mystery finds! No Pirate ship? :laughing7:
Guessing the 2 flat like lumps maybe coins?
If you found it, it will be awesome!

I think it'll be sometime over the weekend for the two flat bits!

No ship, nor evidence of one (?) my pal had recce'd this site after spotting a few ballast type stones but only a dozen or so.
Maybe a wreck at some point but long gone ( or long buried) by now!
